What is broadband?
In the simplest sense, broadband is high speed Internet access that allows you to use both the Internet and the telephone simultaneously by splitting the line into two. It is constantly connected, differing from traditional dial-up in that it doesn't need 'dialling' every time you want to use it.
What do I need to use broadband?
Wanstor will supply you with all the equipment you need based on which business broadband package you choose. The most important requirement, however, is the quality of your telephone line, which needs to be able to support broadband services. The quality of your telephone line will also impact your broadband speed.

What factors can affect broadband speed?
Our package descriptions advertise 'up to' speeds to outline the maximum speed offered by the service. There are a number of factors that may vary the broadband speed you will receive, including line quality, distance from the exchange and possible interference from other devices already on your premises.
Wanstor are committed to outlining these possible speed restrictions with you before you purchase our services.
If you detect a slowness of your business broadband service, please get in contact as the issue may be technical.
How much does the service cost?

What does MPLS and QoS enabled mean?
Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) defines a mechanism for sending data over a network. It was originally developed to provide faster packet forwarding, although improvements in router hardware have reduced the importance of speed in packet forwarding. However, the flexibility of MPLS has led to it becoming the default way for modern networks to achieve Quality of Service (QoS).
Wanstor's Business Broadband network is completely MPLS / QOS enabled. This distinctive level of service allows Wanstor to prioritise specific types of traffic while reducing the importance of other. For example, a business may have a single ADSL line which is used for various type of traffic e.g. internet browsing, Email, VOIP (Voice over IP phones) and FTP traffic. The business may use their broadband connection for VOIP phones, while at the same time another member of staff may be sending an email shot to customers. Normally the different types of traffic compete for bandwidth often meaning that VOIP phone calls or internet browsing begins to break-up or fail. Most companies will not notice if an email takes 10 seconds longer to send, and because of this use QoS to prioritise VOIP or Internet browsing over email.
Wanstor is able to utilise QoS to ensure that your key services are always prioritised above other types of traffic. This is particularly useful for remote staff accessing terminal services or Citrix, as this traffic can be prioritised to provide a faster more responsive experience.
